Frequently Asked Questions!
Q: What age levels do you train?
A: We train young athletes from age 7 to 18 for the Sport Speed Academy. We offer adult/team training and individual coaching for all ages.
Q: Why is the yearly program preferred?
A: There is no "QUICK FIX" when it comes to true development to excel in your chosen sport. The body learns in stages and can not be rushed or bypass certain critical stages. With this in mind we made sure commiting by joining up for the year is the cheaper for you. It is really the only option if you are serious about improving long term! Signing up for the year will help the athlete will stay fresh during the season, limit effects of de-training in their off season and they will be less likely to pick up an injury. At SSA we make allowances for a student who has come from a demanding game/week/session to premote recovery.
Q: What is an average SSA training session/week like?
A: The sessions run for one hour, during which time the athlete will do a proper warm-up followed by muscle activation and dynamic stretching. After the warm-up period, the athletes will perform lateral and linear movement training, and then power and strength training. Some sessions may include conditioning at the end. Most athletes train at least 1 time per week with SSA. Including their sports training sessions this amounts up to 5 or 6 session in total sessions. If time is availible we recommend up to 3 SSA sessions a week through SSA-TEAM or SSA-PRO. They choose a time that fits them best.
Q: What happens if I sign up for the yearly program but I have one sports season where I cant come to one or two sessions? Or get injured??
A: To avoid the effects of detraining during the season, we recommended that athletes continue to come at least once a week. If your in the middle of a very tough season we take this training status into consideration. If extensive physical exertion is not beneficial, we can train the neuromuscular system or offer exercises and training methods that enhance recovery and make the athlete feel better. If you know you are unable to make a session you can arrange to come to another local SSA in advance. However, without coming every week, the cost per session does not increase very much. You could miss over 2 months of the yearly session and still be better off than if you had payed seperately for three 3-month sessions.
Q: Why do we need the £20 one-off SSA assessment?
A: At Sport Speed Academy we run programs based on the developmental and physical abilities of each athlete. Youth develop at different rates, and actual age is not always the best dictator of training levels. All SSA athletes are initially assessed in areas of flexibility, movement patterns, strength and speed. We take this information into account when designing programs.
